Hierarchical and hybrid control of railway systems

The general goal of this research is to build a hierarchical and hybrid model of railway traffic system and to design new optimization and control approach to enhance the safety, efficiency, punctuality of railway systems. First, the hybrid model for single train operation will be built, and the optimization and control methods will be applied, such as model predictive control. Second, the hierarchical and distributed model for railway system will be built, as well as multi-level control structure with local agents at the lowest level and higher supervisory control levels.
