GRADUATE TEACHING ( DISC - Dutch Institute of Systems and Control)

  • System Identification for Control (Load: eight lectures of two hours)

    • Staff Information: Xavier Bombois (four lectures) and Paul Van den Hof (four lectures)

    • Objectives: System Identification concerns the modeling of dynamical systems on the basis of observed data. Control Design concerns the design of a controller using a model description of dynamical systems. The objective of this course to present methodologies for system identification with a particular emphasis on the question how to obtain models that are suited to serve as a basis for control design. In the first part of the course, different methods of system identification are presented with a particular focus on prediction error methods. In the second part of the course attention is given to the question how to identify models that are control-relevant, i.e. that lead to properly designed model-based controllers. This includes issues like closed-loop identification, model uncertainty, robustness analysis and optimal experiment design.

    • The course has been proposed five times already from which the last was in the Autumn 2008. Next course in Autumn 2010.

    • Extracts of the course:

      • Slides on Identification for Robust Control (available here: part1, part2)

      • Lecture notes on Identification for Robust Control (available here: part1, part2)
