Twan's graduation
My first PhD student graduated at TUD
PhDs graduation ceremonies at TU Delft are elaborate and suggestive. Both the candidate and the supervisor (as well as all the other members from the graduation committee) have to dress properly.
This kind of dress can be rented at an old shop in the city center of Delft, which proudly shows that it received approval from the Dutch Royal Family.
The defense lasts exactly one hour. When the hour is over the pedel, which carries an elaborate stick, slams it to the ground to end the defense by saying, in Latin, "Hora est".
